The first foreign Developer contributes. Leonard Boyarski, CEO at Troika Games, that lastly developed Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. His new project is a post-apocalyptic RPG and in our profile you get to know him a bit more private.

Name: Leonard Boyarsky Age: 39 (eegads!) Occupation: CEO/Art Director/Head Muckety-Muck Education: Graduate degrees: BA, BFA in illustration Motto: I can’t believe I get paid for doing this What you always wanted to tell the viewers: I am not an android sent from the future to corrupt the minds of 21st century gamers. Really. I swear.

Lead artist on Stonekeep Art Director/Lead Artist/Original Game Designer on Fallout 1 (designed main story arc and some side quests with Tim and Jason for FO2) Founder of Troika Games Artist/Designer/Stress Monger on Arcanum Project Lead/Art Director on Vampire: Bloodlines <br / Some Questions about you and the business:

Your first pc-game? The first PC game I played was Wizardry (1), The first game I was involved in making was called Unnatural Selection, originally made for Buena Vista but eventually distributed by Maxis

Your three all-time favourite games? Fallout (why can’t that count, dammit?). Okay, my three favourite games that I didn’t make: Lands of Lore (1), Ultima Underworld, Doom

Which game, accept of your own games, would you like to have developed? That’s hard, as I’ve been very fortunate in that I’ve generally worked on the games I’ve wanted to make (which is very rare in this industry). I suppose I would have liked to have worked on the original Doom, because I could really use a Lamborgini :P

You are waiting for...? Bloodlines to hit the shelves and revolutionize the RPG market. Oh, you meant another game? Probably Half Life 2.

Your Non-Computer-Hobby? Reading and being a father.

Troika only developed RPG’s in the past. The newest game, from Troika, is Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, which surely is based on the Source-Engine, but also is more a RPG then a shooter. Wouldn’t it be challenging to conquer another genre? We’ve always said we’d like to tackle other genres, but the right opportunity hasn’t presented itself as of yet.

Your most actual title has a very “end-time” look. It’s being played, after the first screenshot had been released, from the typical Iso-perspective. Is this a strong change, after you developed an Action-RPG from the Ego- respective 3rd-person-view? Not really, as we’re really comfortable with that style of gameplay/view. It was much more challenging going the other direction, from isometric view to first person 3d. Now that we’ve done that, I feel like we can handle either view easily.

In Germany, the RPG-genre surely is one of the most popular genres. According to that, many developers here especially focused on it. Have you ever played a German RPG? And if yes, how did you liked it?

Sadly, I’ve never had the opportunity to play a German RPG, though a few (like Gothic) are definitely on my list for the next free time I get (which should be around the turn of the century).
